Mary Lennox, a spoiled, ill-tempered, and unhealthy child, comes to live with her reclusive uncle in Misselthwaite Manor on England’s Yorkshire moors after the death of her parents. There she meets a hearty housekeeper and her spirited brother, a dour gardener, a cheerful robin, and her willful, hysterical, and sickly cousin, Master Colin, whose wails she hears echoing through the house at night.

Young Mary Lennox is left an orphan when her parents die of illness while living abroad. In their absence, Mary is sent to stay under the care of her Uncle in Yorkshire, England. It’s there in Misselthwaite Manor that she meets two young boys-a servant named Dick and her cousin Colin, who lives locked away in the manor due to a disability that leaves him bound to a wheelchair. The trio discover a secret garden hidden in the manor grounds and work to restore it. As the garden comes into bloom, so too do the three children-together learning about friendship, family, and their own personal strengths.
